France takes note of Najib Mikati’s designation as prime minister following consultations in the new Parliament.

The prime minister-designate must immediately form a government capable of implementing the emergency measures and structural reforms necessary to the country’s recovery as negotiated this past April with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

More than a month after Lebanon’s legislative elections, all of the political parties represented in Parliament must live up to their responsibilities. Given the ongoing deterioration of the Lebanese people’s living standards, it is up to their representatives to serve the country’s national interest and finally take action, without further delay.

France also reaffirms the importance it attributes to holding the presidential election in accordance with the timetable established by the Lebanese Constitution.

France will maintain its strong commitment to the Lebanese people.
