Lebanon – Formation of the government (16 October 2020)
While the economic and social crisis, exacerbated by the consequences of the explosion on August 4, is having an increasingly harsh effect on the Lebanese people, the formation of a mission-driven government able to implement the necessary reforms is continuing to suffer delays, despite the commitments reaffirmed by all Lebanese political forces. They bear sole responsibility for this protracted deadlock, which is hampering any response to the expectations expressed by the Lebanese people.
France calls on all Lebanese political leaders to face up to their responsibilities. It stands ready to support Lebanon on the path toward reform, the only way to allow the international community’s mobilization. It is therefore up to the Lebanese leaders to finally choose recovery instead of deadlock and chaos, in the best interests of Lebanon and the Lebanese people.
