Lebanon – Death of Samir Frangieh (11 April 2017)

We were saddened to learn of the death of Samir Frangieh, an intellectual and former deputy, and a towering figure in the fight for Lebanon’s independence and freedom.

An architect of peace, he strove throughout his life for Lebanese unity and reconciliation. His commitment earned him the rank of commander of the Legion of Honor in 2016. He himself was a model of tolerance and coexistence, and we pay tribute to him.

Samir Frangieh was a great patriot and friend of France. We salute his memory and offer his entire family, as well as the Lebanese people and authorities, our most sincere condolences.
