Kuwait – Visit by Jean-Yves Le Drian (16 July 2020)
Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, visited Kuwait on July 16. He met with his counterpart, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser al-Mohammed al-Sabah.
The minister underscored his attachment to the close relationship between France and Kuwait, which are united by the desire to defend multilateralism, the commitment to international solidarity and the preservation of regional stability. He stressed the importance of the upcoming bilateral strategic dialogue in order to foster ambitious partnerships between our two countries.
Jean-Yves Le Drian and his interlocutor discussed key regional and international issues regarding which our two countries maintain a dialogue based on trust. The minister underscored our focus on the fight against terrorism and the need to continue the fight against Daesh in order to prevent the organization’s resurgence. He stressed the importance of cooperation and international solidarity in the face of the health crisis and commended Kuwait’s efforts in this respect.
The minister underscored our attachment to Iraq’s stability and sovereignty. He reaffirmed France’s desire to help resolve the crisis in Lebanon once the anticipated reforms have been initiated. He reaffirmed our goal of preserving the Vienna agreement and the need for Iran to return to full compliance with its nuclear obligations. Lastly, he highlighted the risks of a partial annexation of the West Bank and reaffirmed the convergence between European and Arab states in this respect.
