France extends its congratulations to Kosovo for its national holiday on February 17, which this year marks the 10th anniversary of its independence.
France was among the first nations to recognize Kosovo. It has stood steadily by its side, supporting it in its efforts to assert itself internationally, to consolidate institutions, to build a state governed by the rule of law, and to carry out the economic and social reforms needed to draw closer to Europe.
The EU is paying special attention to the Western Balkans, as illustrated by the strategy published by the European Commission on February 6. It clearly underscores the European focus of the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as the reforms that are necessary to move forward to that end. The challenges facing it are substantial and the process is a demanding one, but Kosovo can count on France’s support.
France is also committed to continuing efforts toward a complete normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which is vital to the region’s stability and the European prospects of both countries. To that end, France fully supports the dialogue being conducted under the authority of the EU.
