Japan – Meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian and his counterpart, Taro Kono (13 December 2017)

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met this morning with his Japanese counterpart, Taro Kono.

He paid tribute to Japan’s commitment to the fight against climate change and its contribution to the One Planet Summit; Taro Kono represented the Japanese prime minister at the summit.

During the meeting, Jean-Yves Le Drian reaffirmed France’s full support for Japan in the context of the North Korean nuclear and ballistic missile crisis.

We enjoy close cooperation on global issues and this cooperation will continue to strengthen in the run-up to our concurrent presidencies in 2019 of the G7 (France) and the G20 (Japan).

France and Japan enjoy a special partnership that is expected to further develop in 2018 when we mark the 160th anniversary of our diplomatic relations.
