Italy – Meeting between Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and his Italian counterpart (Paris, 20 February 2020)


Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, received Ivan Scalfarotto, Italian Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today.

This first meeting provided an opportunity to discuss current trade policy challenges as well as bilateral economic relations.

The minister of state and his counterpart notably discussed EU trade relations with the United States and China, the reform of the WTO in the run-up to the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference in June in Nur-Sultan, as well as the implementation and strengthening of the instruments to protect the EU’s international trade interests.

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and Ivan Scalfarotto also discussed the inclusion of the challenges of sustainable development in European trade policy, in the context of the Green Deal presented by the European Commission on December 11.
