Clément Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, was in Rome on June 10.

The Minister attended the Third French-Italian Economic Forum, hosted by the French Embassy in Rome. Organized by MEDEF and Confindustria, this forum focused on strengthening economic cooperation between France and Italy, especially within the context of the economic recovery following the health crisis.

During the Forum, Mr. Beaune met with French and Italian economic representatives to discuss future projects to bring together the industries of both countries in a way that takes into account the challenges of the ecological and digital transitions and is likely to develop strategic European value chains. They also discussed the development of French-Italian partnerships to foster innovation, especially within SMEs and startups.

Despite the crisis, France and Italy remained each other’s second-largest trading partners in 2020. France is also the leading investor in Italy and the third-largest country where Italian subsidiaries are located.
