Q: On Tuesday, Russia proposed making the Palestinian idea of holding an international conference on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict a reality; the conference would take place in the spring or summer at the ministerial level, with a dozen or so participants including France. What do you think of this proposal and this timetable?

A: France stands ready to work with all those who want to contribute to a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict within the framework of international law and agreed upon parameters. At the same time, it intends to work toward that end with the parties. It is in this spirit that it has joined with Germany, Egypt and Jordan to encourage the Israelis and Palestinians to make strong, realistic commitments in order to reestablish the climate of trust necessary to a resumption of their dialogue.
