Israel/Palestinian Territories - Q&A from the press briefing (10 June 2020)

Q: Can you remind me of France’s position with regard to its potential recognition of a Palestinian state?

A: France’s position is well known. Only the two-state solution with each state living in peace and security along secure and recognized borders, each with Jerusalem as its capital, will allow for just and lasting peace and stability in the region. To achieve this solution, direct negotiations between the parties are essential, and France stands ready to lend its support to any such effort. This solution implies recognizing the Palestinian State in due time, in a way that is helpful to peace.

In this spirit, France calls on the parties to refrain from taking any unilateral measures liable to jeopardize the resumption of negotiations.
