Middle East peace process - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (15.01.18)

Q - Do you believe, like Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, that the Oslo Accords are obsolete following the United States’ recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel and in view of continued Israeli settlement activity in the Palestinian Territories?

A - France’s position is unwavering: there is no alternative to the solution of two states living side by side in peace and security, with both having Jerusalem as their capital.

The implementation of this solution requires an agreement freely negotiated between the Israelis and Palestinians, for which the Oslo Accords paved the way. France therefore calls on the parties to refrain from any measures that might jeopardize the resumption of negotiations.

France remains committed to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is ready to play its full role in the necessary efforts to restore credible momentum.
