Q – Can you explain the context in which the French Air Force participated in exercises with the Israeli Air Force (along with other European armed forces, as well as the United States) last week? The Times of Israel reports that “Israeli Air Force officials said the objective of the exercise was three-fold: strengthen diplomatic relations between the countries, expose the participating militaries to new tactics and techniques, and improve military cooperation by forcing the air forces to work together.” This seems to indicate that the Defense Ministry was not the only one involved, but also the French Foreign Ministry. Do you have any comment? Are these exercises connected with Jean-Yves Le Drian’s recent statements on Iranian ballistic missiles?
A – France has longstanding relations with Israel and cooperates with that friendly country in every area. Our two countries hold joint military exercises on a regular basis.
As for details concerning this particular exercise, I suggest you contact the Armed Forces Ministry.
