For the first time in 20 years, the Israeli government announced on March 30 that a new settlement would be established in Geulat Zion.
This extremely troubling development comes on the heels of yesterday’s publication of nearly 2000 tenders in existing settlements and the transformation of 90 hectares into public land.
France strongly condemns these decisions, which threaten peace and are liable to aggravate tensions on the ground.
France notes that settlements are illegal under international law, particularly UN Security Council resolution 2334. It calls on Israel to abide by its international obligations.
