We are concerned by the situation of our compatriot Salah Hammouri, who has been detained by the Israeli authorities since August 23. He receives consular protection from our consulate-general in Jerusalem, in accordance with the Vienna Convention.
The latest appeal of the decision to place him in administrative detention was heard on October 22 at the Supreme Court of Jerusalem. Neither our compatriot nor his lawyers were able to find out what the charges were.
France notes that the systematic use and abuse of administrative detention undermines the right to a fair trial and the rights of the defense.
We ask that all of Salah Hammouri’s rights be respected and await his release. In the meantime, we ask that his family be allowed to visit him.
