Gaza (4 May 2019)

France firmly condemns the rocket attacks which today targeted residential areas of the Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. France recalls the right of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace, dignity and security and regrets the civilian victims, on both sides, of these strikes and the ensuing clashes. It expresses its solidarity with the affected populations.

France unreservedly supports the mediation efforts of the United Nations and Egypt. France calls upon the parties to show restraint and recalls that it is imperative to protect civilians and respect humanitarian law. France recalls that long-term stability in Gaza can only be achieved through a negotiated agreement. This requires, on the one hand, the full return of the Palestinian Authority and, on the other hand, the lifting of the blockade, together with credible security guarantees for Israel.

France also calls for the Middle East Peace Process to be resumed, with the aim of establishing two States, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security, with recognized borders, in accordance with international law and internationally agreed parameters.
