Israel – Return of the body of the last hostage (January 27, 2026)

France honors Ran Gvili, the last Israeli hostage in the Gaza Strip, whose body was returned to Israel yesterday. Our thoughts go out to Mr. Gvili’s family and to the Israeli people after months of waiting, marked by anguish and uncertainty.

The return of his remains is a crucial step. It paves the way to the full implementation of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan. This new phase should consolidate the advances made since the beginning of the ceasefire, bring a lasting end to the violence, meet the urgent humanitarian needs of Gaza’s civilian population and lay the groundwork for the enclave’s long-term stability.

France notes that this process cannot come to fruition without the effective disarmament of Hamas.
