France welcomes the resumption, on January 20, of the dialogue between Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Nechirvan Barzani.
It expresses the hope that this meeting will open the way to a constructive dialogue that will make it possible to find solutions to all disputes in a manner that falls within the Iraqi constitutional framework and respects Kurdish autonomy.
In recent months, France has actively supported discussions between the Iraqi federal authorities and representatives of the autonomous region of Kurdistan in conjunction with the UN and its partners. President Macron hosted the Iraqi Prime Minister in Paris on October 5 and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government on December 2.
France encourages them to continue this dialogue in order to return to the path of a united, reconciled Iraq that respects its national diversity.
