Q - Is France trying to act as a mediator between the Baghdad government and the Kurdish regional authorities?
A - We have not been asked to do anything in this respect. As you know, we call on the Iraqi authorities and the Kurdish regional authorities to resolve their disputes through dialogue and within the framework established by the Iraqi constitution.
While the recapture of territories controlled by Daesh is incomplete, we stand alongside all Iraqis in the fight against terrorism. We support the Iraqis in overcoming the challenges of reconstruction, national reconciliation and inclusive governance, involving renewed dialogue between the Kurdish regional authorities and the Iraqi government. This is the message that Jean-Yves Le Drian conveyed to the Iraqi prime minister and the president of the Kurdistan Regional Government during his visit to Baghdad and Erbil in August together with Florence Parly, Minister for the Armed Forces.
The Iraqi prime minister’s visit to France will make it possible to further strengthen our relations with Iraq and our support for this key partner in the region.
