During their meeting in Luxembourg, Jean-Yves Le Drian and his EU counterparts launched a new mission (EUAM Iraq) to help with security sector reforms being carried out by the Iraqi government.
This mission is in line with the EU’s common security and defense policy. It should be deployed in the coming weeks to facilitate consultations with Iraqi officials for the purpose of implementing Iraq’s national security strategy. It will also improve coordination on actions by the EU and its member states on the ground, and will look at ways to improve our common support for Iraq in the security arena.
France supports this initiative aimed at strengthening Iraq’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and security in the country.
