France is closely following the demonstrations taking place in Baghdad and in several provinces in southern Iraq.

It regrets the violent death of several demonstrators and the large number of people injured in recent days. France reaffirms its commitment to the right to protest peacefully.

It applauds the Iraqi authorities’ desire to undertake reforms in response to the legitimate aspirations of the population. It calls for their full implementation, specifically by initiating a constructive dialogue in everyone’s interest.

France will continue to support Iraq and its people on the path of reform and in their exercise of a just, inclusive democracy.
