Iraq - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (19.02.18)

Q – We’ve just learned of Mélina Boughedir’s release in Iraq. Can you tell us under what conditions her deportation is going to be organized? What will the timescale be? What will happen to her when she gets back? Will she be accompanied by her child? Is she subject to legal proceedings in France?

A – Mme Boughedir was arrested in Iraq in July 2017. She was the subject of legal proceedings in that country and benefited from consular protection. As we’ve emphasized time and again, it is up to the Iraqi authorities to take sovereign decisions on the fate of people arrested on their territory.

Once Mme Boughedir arrives in France, it would be up to the relevant French authorities to implement legal proceedings relating to her.
