Jean-Marc Ayrault will visit Iran from January 30 to 31. He will be received by President Rohani and will notably meet with his counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Jean-Marc Ayrault will discuss with his interlocutors the implementation of the agreement reached in Vienna on July 14, 2015, to which France made a significant contribution. He will underscore the need for all parties to the agreement to strictly comply with their commitments.
The minister of foreign affairs and international development will co-chair, alongside his Iranian counterpart, the first French-Iranian joint economic committee. He will also be accompanied by a delegation of around 60 French firms, some of which will sign agreements with their Iranian partners. This visit will also provide an opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation in the areas of research, higher education and culture.
Jean-Marc Ayrault will talk about Iran’s role in the region in light of the crises in Syria, Yemen and Iraq. He will reaffirm that these conflicts must be resolved by political means in order to enable the Middle East to return to the path of peace and stability and to strengthen the fight against terrorism.
