Q – According to several sources in Washington, American President Donald Trump intends to propose a deal to London, Berlin and Paris: commit to amending the agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme in return for Washington renewing sanctions relief for Tehran in May. What’s France’s position? Would it be prepared to accept this deal?

A – France’s position on the Iranian nuclear agreement is known.

As President Macron said, we reaffirm our full commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and its strict implementation. We emphasize its contribution to protecting the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.

We shall continue talking to our European and American partners about the Iranian nuclear programme.

We remain concerned about the Iranian ballistic missile programme and Iran’s activities in the region, and particularly about information that the country has been supporting the Houthis in Yemen. We call on the international community to take greater action to advance peace and stability in the region and respond to Iran’s efforts to destabilize the region.
