Iran - Q&A from the press briefing (30 september 2022)

Yesterday Germany clearly called for sanctions against Iran in response to attacks on women’s rights and human rights in Iran. Do you agree with Germany that the EU should impose sanctions on Iran?

In light of the Iranian security forces’ brutal crackdown on protesters following the shocking death of Mahsa Amini, France is coordinating with its EU partners on the most appropriate response to these massive new attacks on human rights, and especially women’s rights, in Iran.

Together with our European partners, France is therefore actively exploring the use of the EU Human Rights Sanctions Regime in relation to human rights violations in Iran, in order to take action against the leaders involved in this crackdown.

Our shared priority is to immediately end the Iranian security forces’ brutal crackdown on protesters and on the Iranian people, and to hold the perpetrators of this crackdown responsible.
