Iran - Q&A from the press briefing (17 December 2020)

Q : In a context in which Iran has reneged on a large number of its commitments and even exceeded the limits set out in the 2015 nuclear deal, do you think that it will be necessary to negotiate a new agreement just to establish a path toward returning to the situation that existed in 2015?

A : Iran’s violations of its nuclear commitments under the Vienna agreement are extremely troubling. Their consequences, notably with respect to enrichment, are serious. They undermine the benefits of this agreement in terms of non-proliferation.

As the E3 have consistently stressed, Iran must therefore return to full compliance with the agreement without delay and refrain from any further action that could undermine its long-term viability.

We welcome the determination expressed by President-elect Biden to return to the path of negotiation; this should allow all parties to return to compliance with the commitments made under the JCPOA. France, together with its partners, is determined to continue to make every possible effort to achieve that.
