Iran - Q&A from the press briefing (6 September 2021)

Q: Do you think Iran has responded sufficiently to the IAEA’s demands since the latest meeting of the Board of Governors, in June?

A: Together with its international partners, France fully supports the IAEA’s action under the Safeguards Agreement with Iran, as well as the professional and impartial efforts of the Agency’s Director General and his teams to clarify certain questions about Iran’s statements and the state of its nuclear programme. Iran must immediately provide the necessary full and technically credible explanations to the questions the Agency is asking about the presence of undeclared nuclear material in Iran.

Moreover, along with our JCPOA partners and the United States, we continue to regret Iran’s unilateral suspension in February of the implementation of the Additional Protocol and of measures to verify the Vienna agreement. We call on Iran to confirm to the International Atomic Energy Agency the continued implementation of temporary measures under the technical understanding reached between them. Any interruption would compromise the IAEA’s knowledge of Iran’s nuclear activities. Iran must immediately resume full cooperation with the IAEA.

The Director General will review the situation on Iran’s cooperation in a report that will be examined at the Board of Governors Meeting, to be held from 13 to 17 September.
