Q – Yesterday marked the 1,000th day in detention in Iran of journalist and human rights activist Narges Mohammadi, a recipient of the Medal of the City of Paris. She was arrested on May 5, 2015, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole. Without access to the medical care she needs, her health is in danger. What is your response?

A – We have informed the Iranian authorities of our concern and our desire for a swift solution to the situation of Narges Mohammadi, a journalist and Vice-President of the Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran. In September 2016, France publicly deplored the prison sentence handed down to her.

We notably call on the Iranian authorities to do everything possible to allow her to receive appropriate medical care.

France reaffirms its attachment to the freedom of the press and the freedom of opinion and expression in Iran, as elsewhere in the world.
