Q - What’s your reaction to the demonstrations in Iran?
A - The French authorities are closely monitoring the situation in Iran. Demonstrating freely is a fundamental right. The same is true for the free movement of information. France expresses its concern over the large number of victims and arrests. These issues, and more generally speaking, human rights, will be central to our discussions with the Iranian authorities in the coming weeks.
Q - Will Friday’s trip to Iran by Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian still take place, despite the demonstrations and the violence?
A - We have no information to convey to you at this stage. As the minister has said several times, France is in favor of a regular, direct, rigorous dialogue with Iran. That dialogue includes the question of human rights.
