Q : Ambassador of France in Washington Gérard Araud, expressed the view on Saturday on Twitter that it was “wrong to say that following the expiration of the JCPOA, Iran will be allowed to enrich uranium.” Iran considered his comments to be a “major violation of the object and purpose of the JCPOA” and that they merited “immediate clarification from Paris.” Can you clarify France’s position on this matter?

A : France is attached to the implementation of the JCPOA, which it will continue to support as long as Iran upholds all of its nuclear obligations.

This agreement, which was unanimously backed by the UN Security Council through UNSCR 2231, is a key element of the non-proliferation regime and an important factor for international and regional security.
