Iran – Adoption of European sanctions (October 18, 2022)

Share

The Council of the European Union adopted restrictive measures yesterday against four entities and 11 individuals involved in serious human rights violations in Iran and directly responsible for the violent crackdown under way.

Among them are the morality police, a political authority, officials in the Iranian security services, and police chiefs in the regions where the crackdown was the most brutal. The measures consist of a ban on entering European Union territory and a freezing of the financial assets of the persons and entities listed.

We are asking the Iranian authorities to put an immediate stop to this brutal crackdown and implement the principles to which they themselves have subscribed, particularly those contained in the United Nations’ [International] Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which they joined in 1975.
