France welcomes yesterday’s adoption by the Human Rights Council of a resolution to establish an impartial, independent fact-finding mission on the human rights situation in Iran. This resolution passed during a special session with 25 votes in favor.

This mechanism will provide for the independent, impartial, public, transparent documentation of human rights violations committed against protesters following the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16.

France reiterates its absolute condemnation of the crackdown against Iranian men and women involved in protests. Their aspirations for greater freedom and respect for their rights are legitimate and must be heard.

France will continue its efforts in international and European bodies to combat impunity for those responsible for the crackdown and the death of Mahsa Amini, and to demand that Iran end this crackdown and abide by its commitments under international law, specifically the right to protest peacefully and equal rights between men and women.
