Indonesia - Hong Kong – Visit by Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne (27-30 November 2018)

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is visiting Indonesia from November 27 to 29.

He will notably meet with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan, with whom he will discuss the implementation of the strategic partnership that has existed between our two countries since 2011.

In an influential country that is a member of the G20, a key player in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and is preparing to sit on the UN Security Council for two years, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne will reaffirm the priority accorded by President Macron to strong and effective multilateralism. He will express France’s attachment to the fight against climate disruption, especially the fight against deforestation. He will expand on these points with all of his interlocutors, as well as during a speech at Indonesia’s main think tank, the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia.

The strengthening of our economic and trade relations with this country of 260 million people, which is experiencing strong growth, will also be central to the visit. The minister of state will champion French expertise - notably in the area of renewable energy -, and promote investment by French firms in Indonesia, as well as increased cooperation in the area of tourism, with 200,000 Indonesian tourists expected to visit France in 2019.

The minister of state will visit Hong Kong on November 30 where he will meet with Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong, and Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. This visit will provide an opportunity to exchange views with the business community and to promote French expertise in the aerospace and scientific fields. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne will take part in the inauguration of the new campus of the Victor-Segalen French International School. Hong Kong has the second largest French community in Asia and almost 800 French firms operate there.
