The minister expressed France’s solidarity in the face of the pandemic and announced that France could make a substantial donation to Indonesia in the near future.

The ministers took stock of the strengthening of the strategic partnership that has existed between France and Indonesia for more than 10 years, notably with respect to our increased cooperation in the areas of defense, maritime affairs, and health.

Jean-Yves Le Drian reaffirmed the importance of our partnership with Indonesia in the Indo-Pacific region. The two ministers expressed their shared desire to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region that respects international law.

The minister welcomed Indonesia’s commitment, alongside its ASEAN partners, to responding to the crisis in Myanmar and to finding a political solution to the crisis. He reaffirmed the commitment of France and the EU, which adopted a third round of sanctions against the Myanmar regime at the Foreign Affairs Council on June 21.
