Indonesia – Call between Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian and his Indonesian counterpart (26 February 2021)

Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke today by telephone with Ms Retno Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

Minister Le Drian reaffirmed France’s determination to work for a free, open Indo-Pacific, governed by the rule of law. He expressed his desire to further strengthen the strategic partnership between our two countries, particularly in the defence, maritime cooperation and health fields, as well as within ASEAN. Minister Le Drian recalled the shared commitment of our two countries to equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines under the ACT-A initiative.

Minister Le Drian commended Indonesia’s efforts in response to the crisis in Myanmar following the military coup and to avoid any escalation. He recalled the European Union’s adoption in principle on 22 February of further restrictive measures against those responsible for the coup d’État.
