Iceland – Meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian and Foreign Minister Gudlaugur Thor Thórdarson (Paris, 1 October 2018)
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian hosted his Icelandic counterpart, Gudlaugur Thor Thórdarson, this morning.
The ministers shared their common views on the future of multilateralism and the importance of reforming the WTO in this regard. They also discussed issues related to the British withdrawal from the EU and reviewed cooperation between Iceland and the EU in connection with the European Economic Area, especially with respect to fishing.
The ministers called for continuing our shared cooperation on the climate and the environment, especially in the area of geothermal energy and on the Arctic Council.
Lastly, Mr. Le Drian and Mr. Thórdarson discussed the security situation in the Northeast Atlantic. They stressed the importance of cooperating on maritime security and sea rescues.
