Statement by the ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs spokesperson

Mme Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, hosted a meeting with Mr Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in Paris on 14 February.

The ministers reiterated their commitment to maintaining unity in the European Union in the face of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.

Mme Colonna emphasized France’s wish to continue the momentum initiated by the Versailles summit by working to strengthen Europe’s defence industry and the growing complementarity between Defence Europe and NATO. The two ministers also reaffirmed their shared desire to step up their cooperation in Africa.

The Minister discussed with her counterpart issues related to the rule of law, recalling France’s commitment to defending and protecting basic rights within the European Union.

Finally, the meeting provided an opportunity to signal the shared interest in bolstering the development and structuring of cooperation projects between Paris and Budapest, particularly with regard to nuclear energy and defence.
