Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of State for European Affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met with Judit Varga, Hungarian Minister of Justice, also in charge of European relations, on June 10.

The discussions focused on the proposals for a European economic recovery plan, in the run-up to the video conference of European affairs ministers of the 27 member states on June 16 aimed at preparing for the video conference of heads of state and government on June 19.

The two ministers also discussed:

  • the coordination of the lifting of the measures imposed at the borders within the Schengen area,
  • the reflection on the lessons to be learned from the crisis within the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
  • the issues relating to respect for the rule of law and fundamental freedoms. In this respect, the minister of state will reaffirm our support for the strengthening of European mechanisms to protect the rule of law in all EU member states.

Reaffirming France’s commitment to its Central and Eastern European partners within the framework of cooperation focused on shared interests at the bilateral, European and multilateral levels, the minister of state underscored her attachment to a constructive dialogue with Hungary on all of these issues.
