Q: What do you think of President Alpha Condé’s decision to run for a third term?
A: France reiterates its concern – already expressed during the legislative election and referendum – over the contested voter roll. It condemned the violence that took place during that electoral process, leading to several deaths.
We remain concerned over the next vote. France calls on all Guinean actors, no matter who they might be, to act responsibly, engage in dialogue, and exercise the utmost restraint.
France supports regional organizations, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union, as well as the UN, in their efforts to keep the political climate from deteriorating and avoid a new cycle of violence in Guinea.
