Share

France joins the appeal by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemning the attempted seizure of power by force which took place on 5 September, demanding a return to the constitutional order and calling for the immediate and unconditional release of President Condé. France is in close contact with its African and international partners.

Q: Are you pushing for consequences for the coup d’état in Guinea, or will you be satisfied with a military transition, as in Mali and Chad?

A: I refer you to our statement yesterday.

Q: Have you given French citizens in Guinea any special instructions following the coup that has taken place? Do you think their safety will be jeopardized? Do you think French businesses’ interests in Guinea will be under threat?

A:
Our embassy in Conakry and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ crisis and support unit are mobilized and closely following the situation. Messages urging French people to stay in a safe place, avoid all travel and be extremely vigilant have been sent to the local French community, by our embassy – which remains in contact with French nationals – and in the travel advice on our website and on the Ariane app.
