France is concerned about the political situation in Guinea-Bissau. After the holding of inclusive, free and peaceful parliamentary elections on March 10, the results of which were accepted by all parties, it expresses the hope that a new government can be appointed as swiftly as possible.
France also encourages all political actors to continue dialogue and to find a consensus-based solution with respect to the composition of the Bureau of the National People’s Assembly and the swift appointment of a new prime minister.
France pays tribute to the commitment of all of Guinea-Bissau’s partners to supporting the election process, especially the critical involvement of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It supports its mediation efforts to ensure that the presidential election takes place before the end of 2019, thus concluding the election cycle.
