Greece – Meeting between Clément Beaune and Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs (16 March 2021)

Clément Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will receive Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, Greece’s Deputy Minister for European Affairs, today.

They will take stock of the priorities for the European agenda in the run-up to the General Affairs Council on March 23. They will review the coordination of Europe’s response to the pandemic, in its various dimensions – health, economic and social. They will prepare for the Porto Social Summit, focusing in particular on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

In preparation for the European Council on March 25 and 26, Clément Beaune and Miltiadis Varvitsiotis will discuss relations with Turkey and the situation in the eastern Mediterranean, a region where France and Greece share the common goal of peace and stability. They will also discuss the Pact on Migration and Asylum proposed by the European Commission, the Western Balkans and the Conference on the Future of Europe.

Lastly, the minister of state and the Greek minister will discuss bilateral relations and France’s participation in the celebrations to mark the bicentennial of Greece’s independence. These celebrations will reaffirm the ties of friendship that have existed between the two countries for two centuries, based on the common values of humanism and the fight for the emergence of the European ideal.
