Weimar Triangle – Hungary – Visit by Jean-Yves Le Drian (10 september 2021)

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian will visit Germany and Hungary on September 10.

In Germany, he will meet with his German and Polish counterparts, Heiko Maas and Zbigniew Rau, within the framework of the Weimar Triangle, a forum for discussion and cooperation between France, Germany and Poland established 30 years ago. The ministers will discuss several pressing European and international issues, particularly the situations in Afghanistan, Belarus and Ukraine, as well as the Indo-Pacific, which will be one of the priorities of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2022. They will also address the rule of law and European values.

In Hungary, the minister will meet with his counterpart, Péter Szijjártó. Ahead of the upcoming French presidency of the Council of the European Union, Mr. Le Drian will underscore France’s desire to continue the dialogue with Hungary to foster a more united, more sovereign Europe characterized by solidarity. They will also discuss the rule of law and European values, as well as major European and international issues.
