Germany – Visit by Amélie de Montchalin to Berlin and Hamburg. Participation in the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly meeting (Berlin, 23 September 2019)

Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of State for European affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and foreign affairs, will be in Berlin on September 23 to attend the second meeting of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly alongside Heiko Maas, Germany’s federal minister for foreign affairs.

They will discuss current European issues and the two countries’ priorities for the implementation of the EU strategic agenda. They will review the progress made in implementing the new Treaty on Franco-German Cooperation and Integration signed in Aachen on January 22.

They will then respond to questions from members of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly. This will give them the opportunity to reaffirm the essential role played by cooperation between the National Assembly and the Bundestag – a key aspect of the close ties between our two countries.

The Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly was established in March 2019 by the National Assembly and the Bundestag. It consists of 50 French deputies and 50 German deputies. Following an initial session in Paris on March 25, it is holding its second meeting in Berlin on September 23.

While in Berlin, the minister of state will also meet with lawmakers and the heads of political foundations. In Hamburg, she will meet with leading economic and media figures.
