Nathalie Loiseau, Minister for European Affairs received her German counterpart, Michael Roth, this morning, a few days after the meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Heiko Maas, Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Roth’s visit, immediately after Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Paris on March 16, and ahead of the European Council on March 22 and 23, reflects our determination to further strengthen the French-German partnership and re-found the EU.

Ms. Loiseau and Mr. Roth discussed the major topics of the forthcoming European Council and the Euro Summit on March 23. They also took stock of the efforts under way to draft a new Elysée Treaty, as announced by President Macron and the German chancellor on January 21, 2018.

They worked on how the citizen consultations on Europe, which will be conducted in almost all member states from April, will be organized in France and Germany in order to give a voice to European citizens and invite them to share their hopes and expectations with respect to European integration.
