Mr Clément Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs, and Mr Michael Roth, Minister of State for Europe, the secretaries-general for Franco-German cooperation, are delighted to announce the awarding of the 2020 Adenauer-De Gaulle Prize to DRF-Luftrettung and Luxembourg Air Rescue.
Created on 22 January 1988 for the 25th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty, the Adenauer-De Gaulle Prize is awarded to individuals, initiatives and institutions which have, through their work, made a major contribution to consolidating Franco-German friendship.
In a particularly difficult public health situation this year, these two air rescue companies carried out the majority of transfers of French COVID-19 patients by air to hospitals in neighbouring countries this spring.
During the first wave of the epidemic in the spring, which hit the border region hard, the mobilization of the fleets and teams of DRF-Luftrettung and Luxembourg Air Rescue sent a strong signal of solidarity and European cooperation.
This Adenauer-De Gaulle Prize rewards the efficiency, professionalism and ethics of the two companies, which embodied the spirit of solidarity and cross-border cooperation. It is the symbol of a tangible, living Europe, driven by its citizens.
Clément Beaune and Michael Roth look forward to presenting the prize as soon as the public health situation permits.
