The Gambia – Meeting between Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and the foreign minister (3 April 2019)

Share

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, minister of state attached to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met today with Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara.

Their meeting offered an opportunity to reaffirm the solid ties between our two countries. Since the donors’ conference of May 2018, France is The Gambia’s leading bilateral provider of funds, i.e., €50 million in assistance for the period of 2018-2021. This support is making it possible to develop agricultural projects as well as access to water and electricity. France is also providing support to The Gambia by strengthening its security system, making a French aid worker available to the Gambian national security advisor.

This meeting also served as the occasion to announce a €500,000 project to support the teaching of French in Gambia, thus solidifying The Gambia’s place among French-speaking nations. Indeed, The Gambia has been a member of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) since 2018.
