I am deeply concerned about last night’s events in Libreville. There is no place for violence in an election process.
I therefore call on all parties to exercise the utmost restraint in order to prevent further casualties. The confrontations must cease as swiftly as possible and people’s safety must be ensured. This is in the best interests of Gabon and all Gabonese people.
Again, any disputes concerning the results of the presidential election should be resolved through the judicial channels, within the framework of a transparent and impartial process. This is the way to conclusively establish the fairness of the election.
