France welcomes the appointment of Sahle-Work Zewde as President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on October 25.
France salutes the career of this major figure in international political life. Ethiopia is implementing a policy of ambitious reforms which France fully supports, including in the area of gender equality, as reflected by the formation of a parity-based government on October 17, 2018, and the appointment of a female president.
France welcomes the appointment of Sahle-Work Zewde, who has strong ties with our country. After attending the Lycée Gebre-Mariam in Addis-Abeba and then the University of Montpellier, she served as ambassador of Ethiopia to France from 2002 to 2006.
France wishes the new president every success. We will work with her to strengthen the relations based on friendship and trust between France and Ethiopia.
