African Union Summit (Addis Ababa, 22-29 January 2018)


France welcomes several key outcomes of the 30th African Union Summit which took place in Addis Ababa from January 22 to 29: progress on the institutional reform of the African Union, launch of the Single African Air Transport Market, adoption of a protocol on the free movement of persons and meeting of the Africa Renewable Energy Initiative Board of Directors.

France also congratulates President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagamé on his election as Chairperson of the African Union.

France is attached to continuing and strengthening its cooperation with the African Union in order to promote peace, stability, integration and sustainable development on the African continent. It notably welcomes the projects launched in several areas: predictable funding for peacekeeping operations; the implementation of partnerships between the UN and the AU, as well as between the EU and the AU; the establishment of a Continental Free Trade Area; the accelerated harnessing of Africa’s renewable energy potential.
