Jean-Yves Le Drian spoke yesterday with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry.
The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs underscored his attachment to the strategic partnership between France and Egypt, the development of which he has supported over the last few years.
The two ministers discussed regional issues, notably the Libyan crisis. They reaffirmed the need for close coordination on this issue, as on other regional crises.
Jean-Yves Le Drian also recalled the situation of the families of the victims of the EgyptAir flight MS 804 crash. Almost a year ago, on May 19, 2016, this tragedy resulted in the death of 66 passengers and crew members, including 15 of our compatriots and 14 foreign nationals living in France.
Jean-Yves Le Drian extends his sympathy to the victims’ families and friends and assures them of our wholehearted solidarity.
France would like full light to be shed on the causes of this disaster, with the support of the Egyptian authorities. The French authorities will spare no effort to achieve this.
